"I used Care connect to raise concerns about the..."

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

I used Care connect to raise concerns about the time it was taking to get results of investigations and speed of making appointments for investigations. I received a response very quickly and professionally to my communication. Thank you 10/10! However at the time of writing we still do not have the results of my husbands investigations. We had been informed that a letter had been dictated by the doctor and I can only conclude that there are not enough admin staff to respond quickly to letters dictated to them or processing of mail is slow. I really hope that something can be done to speed up the notification of appointments. My husband had an OP appointment in early August, at that appointment he was told he would have a colonoscopy. He had to wait over 2 weeks before an appointment letter arrived and a further 3 weeks for the colonoscopy. After the colonoscopy he was told he needed a colonography, a further wait for a letter asking him to make an appointment and then a further wait for the actual appointment. Why can't appointments be made as soon as it is recognised they are needed? My husband works on maternity reception at the RVI. When he receives a phone call from a midwife requesting a scan an appointment time is immediately given. Why are other departments not similarly proactive in making appointments? Unfortunately I have also needed the services of the NHS and have had similar problems with appointments. I was seen at ward 17 and had a CT scan and then advised that I needed an angiogram and would receive an appointment letter. No letter arrived and I rang to enquire as to what was happening. I was told that there was no referral requesting one! This is being followed up but it is again an example of how the process of receiving appointments is flawed. We have no criticism of the care provided by the RVI and believe it to be an excellent hospital with excellent range of services and we are privileged to live in an area with such good facilities. However something clearly needs to change in terms of the referral process. The 'not knowing' and 'waiting' makes the process so stressful, which isn't conducive to good health. We don't expect appointments to happen straight away but knowing when they are would really help to ease the anxiety. We are both hoping that our need to use NHS services will end soon but we would like our comments to be used constructively to help others who need to use it in the future.
