"medical concerns"

About: Stroud General Hospital

I have symptoms since January 2013 which are new to me, very unusual to me and which clearly suggest gynecologic cancer. I have been referred by my GP 2x to be seen by specialist/consultant however I was not examined at all! No blood and ultrasound tests were arranged and decision was made solely on the basis of my age! (I was told I look to young to have a cancer) , the consultant dismissed my concerns about cancer without actually examining and arranging tests to confirm this! Only after I have insisted that I should have at least an ultrasound scan the consultant agreed and arranged an ultrasound. Following day the sonographer has clearly identified large mass in the pelvic area and looked very worried (therefore an internal ultrasound was carried out as well). I was told that my consultant will receive the scan results within 2 days. This happened 4 weeks ago and I had no reply , no letter, no call what so ever and I am unable to reach the consultant practice/secretary directly (the only form of contact is "answering machine"). What I try to point out is the fact that only a cancer that has been identified early enough is curable (which clearly is not happening in my case just as in the case of millions of other women diagnosed every year in late/advanced stage).

Many thanks for taking the time to share this feedback - we're sorry for the very long delay in replying to you: NHS Choices has only recently resolved some technical issues so that we can now receive comments and respond directly. I think it is possible that you are referring to services provided by Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which manage Cheltenham General and Gloucester Royal hospitals, but we will happily pass your comments on to them. Would you be happy to get in touch with our Patient Advice & Liaison (PALs) team so we can get a few more details? You can contact the team on 0300 421 8313 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday or email: yourexperience@glos-care.nhs.uk. Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust
