"Dreadful Experience Yet Again NMGH"

About: North Manchester General Hospital

My husband fell off his bike and went to A&E, the triage were very good and took him straight though to be seen. The x-ray showed a bad break to the wrist and he was admitted as he was told it needed to be operated on and if there were no beds in NMGH he would be transferred to another hospital in the trust. An hour or so later we were told they had changed their mind and he would go home to be called the next day regarding his operation. My husband was in lots of pain and was vomiting etc and whilst the nurses were saying we could leave when he was ready it did feel like we were being thrown out of the door. We were sent away with a slip of paper telling us not to get his temporary cast wet and nothing more, During the time in A&E I could hear the male sister/nurse questioning the treatment being advised by the doctor which was very unprofessional and I felt that the sister/nurse was more competent than the doctor from the manner in which he was speaking. The following day I called the hospital to find out what was going on and the sister was extremely helpful and asked ortho to call us with information as to when his operation would be. We were told he should not eat from midnight and attend surgery at 7.30 in the morning. My husband sat in surgery from 7.30 am until 3.30pm at which point he was told he would not be having his operation and in fact they did not know when he would have it and it could be next week or maybe in 8 weeks? Throughout the time at NMGH we were given scrappy bits of paper with scribbled down numbers which was extremely unprofessional. I find it ridiculous that they cannot even estimate when his operation may be and have signed him off work for 6 weeks! It is extremely concerning that we feel a distinct lack of care and organisation, particularly as we previously had a terrible experience at NMGH with a very ill child.
