This is my first experience of Queens maternity unit and I was appalled by the staffs lack of compassion and any sort of manners. My girlfriend is 41 weeks pregnant and was suffering with a terrible head ache and had some bleeding. When we rang the triage unit the midwife was very rude and was not going to let us come down and told us to book an appointment with our GP on Monday. (it was Saturday eve when we rang). When we arrived we were merely looked as as a member of staff looked up from writing. When she checked my girlfriends blood pressure, she found it was extremely high (151/94), she did some bloods and then walked off. When my girlfriend explained to her about the blood in the day and the shooting pains she refused to give her an internal examination to make sure everything was ok. She said is was not good to keep interfering, which is contradictory to the midwife saying to have plenty of sex. She then checked her blood pressure again, to which is was still very high. She then went over and got a manual machine. Checked it on there and said it wasn't high on their so therefore she must be okay, she was told to take some paracetamol for her headache and we were scurried out of the ward. I feel terribly let down by the staff and the care we received and I am nervous as to what to expect when the baby actually does come.
