Removal of parotid gland October 9/10th 2013 I first saw the consultant with a lump in my neck and quickly had a scan and biopsy which confirmed a benign tumour in my parotid gland. I was treated with great respect and the resulting operation clearly explained. Every department involved in my treatment was exemplary from the scanning departments and eventually, the operation and a brief stay on ward 8. The staff were friendly, had a great sense of humour and were attentive and caring. The cleanliness and observed caring to the other patients very high. I was visited by the consultant and anaesthetist after the operation which is reassuring. Before my discharge it was explained clearly what procedures would follow. The following day I was concerned that there may have been an infection starting and I was seen promptly back on ward 8 which was both reassuring and efficient. It is now 2 weeks since my operation and I am very pleased with my scar, even though I am a lady in her sixties!! I have suffered some facial nerve damage but I was aware that this might happen and I am fairly confident that it will return to normal in time.
