About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

My mother in Law has been "treated" by Sunderland hosipital for cancer. This has involved them not even sending a nurse or appointment to see a consultant in 4 months, despite her having to return twice in this peroid due to increased pain for which they just gave her morphine. Thankfully the last time she was taken in she was sent on to the freeman hosipital, who were more than aittle shocked and surprised by her lack of treatment, she has now been given radio therapy at the Freeman and we have also been told she required from the point of identification of the cancer a weekly visit from a nurse and should have had regular appointments from her consultant, the first within 2 weeks. The Freeman hosipital also informed us that her cancer has not grown in 3 months and they stated that to say she only had 3 months left to live which is what we were told was an extremely bold and odd statement to make. Also she was told yesterday by sunderland she couldnt have a plastic spoon with her tea to stir the sugar has she had already had one in the morning, seriously! Aside from this the hosiptial is dirty, the public toilets are filthy, the wards are cluttered and outdated, the staff are also rude and unprofessional. Not a good word I could say about this hosiptial.

We are very sorry at the treatment which your mother received at our hospital and would be very grateful if you could contact us so that we can investigate this further and ensure that it does not recur in future.
