I had my baby son at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in August 2008 and can say that the care I received during labour was excellent!
My labour lasted for 3 days and I was in terrible pain. Even though the department was extremely busy, the hospital found a delivery room and gave me painkilers when I was just 1cm dilated. I spent the next 13 hours in the delivery room where I was cared for by a midwife and a student midwife. I was never left alone for more than 5 minutes during those 13 hours.
The midwives were extremely dedicated to their job and even came to visit me on the postnatal ward the next day. I did however find the aftercare very limited, and would have liked to have received more attention, especially as I was a first time mother. This is a very busy hospital and you are made aware of this.
