"Terrible."

I only spent two days in thye Newberry Centre Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Ward and it was horrendous. I was neglected and left alone without professional interventions as I had been promised prior to my Admission. I simply had some useless nurses nodding their heads when they did bother to talk to me. The rest of the time they lock themselves in the Nurse office and pretend to do work when really they just talk and want to ignore the patients. I was extremely distressed by the absolute incompetence and lack of care I recieved during my two day stay. I spent the whole time alone in my room apart from brief periods in the Garden for fresh air. I strongly recommend you do not voluntarily admit yourself to this place, they tell you rubbish about the ''intensive theraputic interventions'' you will recieve and its all a lie. You only get to see a Psychologist once a week which is no different to outpatient services. Also, they lock all the doors and won't allow you to leave if you want even though you are told as a voluntary patient that is your right. The doctors never bother with the patients either, you just get told they are having ''meetings''. Shocking, absolutely disgusted by the way I was treated in the Newberry Centre, West Lane Hospital, Middlesbrough. So glad to of left, Terrible experience!

It is extremely important to the Trust that patients receive a quality service whilst staying on any of our wards and actively seeks feedback from patients about their experiences. We can learn from the feedback we receive and sometimes this helps us to change and improve our services. The Children and Young Peoples Service are very sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience and would like the opportunity to learn from this and respond to you personally about the issues you have raised. If you could contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) Freephone 0800 052 0219 they will be able to arrange this.
