"Wait a minute"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

If only! I waited two hours to see the ophthalmology consultant in the out patients despite appointment at a certain time. Fellow patients said that was not unusual. No apology or explanation - not really good enough is it. Doesn't happen in other departments in the RVI.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on NHS Choices about your visit to the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. For many of the clinics we aim to offer a ‘one-stop-shop’ in that we undertake imaging, review and if required treatment on the same day. This can be quite unpredictable and cause some appointments to take longer than anticipated but it does mean that the patient only has one visit. We apologise for the delay that you encountered and any inconvenience caused. We expect the nursing staff to keep patients informed of any delays and the fact that this did not happen on the occasion that you visited will be addressed with the staff in the Outpatient Department. Once again we apologise that you were not kept informed of any delays in clinic. We are continuously looking at our service to try to improve and appreciate the feedback that you have provided.
