"A place that's got a home in my heart ...."

About: St Mary's Hospital (Melton Mowbray)

I gave birth here on 04/03/2013, after being recommended by a friend. After me and my husband came to look around we both agreed it would be lovely to go here and felt very lucky that my low-risk pregnancy meant that this was possible. During my early labour i did have 2nd thoughts and called for advice. The midwife assured me everything was normal and to call back when my labour had progressed. In the early hours the pain was worse and i panicked and called LGH ,they didn't have any birthing pools that were working and informed my husband that all of LRI 's pools were out of action. The midwife at the general checked my notes and told me i should defiantly go to st marys . My husband made the call and we have never looked back. From the minute i arrived and was greeted i knew i had made the right choice. She was so friendly and made me feel instantly relaxed. I think being in a calm and relaxed environment definately contributed to the safe delivery of my son,and meant i didn't need any pain relief !. Im just sad the midwife didn't get to see him arrive :-( !.. Even though there was a staff change over 15minutes before giving birth,it did not have am impact on care. After having tea & toast, being left alone to shower and sort ourselfs out, we were then transferred onto the ward & had lunch ordered for me!..i honestly felt so welcome. I stayed 2 nights out of choice and could of stayed longer!. For some days after leaving st marys i constantly had thoughts and feelings about the place and just couldn't believe the experience i'd had. I have since boasted about it to anyone that will listen!.. Please don't close !..if Im lucky enough to have a second baby i 100% want to give birth here..

Than you for taking the time to post your comments. It's lovely to read about your experience at St Mary's - we will pass your comments onto the maternity team there. A second baby at St Mary's is a lovely thought, although you should know we are currently upgrading the maternity services at both the General and the Royal. The new birthing pools at the Royal have now opened too and we have had some great feedback - just check out the Leicester Mercury http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/VIDEO-Lewie-leads-birth-pool-babies/story-19283411-detail/story.html Kind regards Leicester's Hospitals
