My wife was admitted to C31 on 14.04.13 with excruciating stomach pains. Nhs direct suspected gallstones and nems suspected pancreitis. After screaming in agony for over 4 hours they finally found her a bed. I was disappointed at the lack of communication from the nursing staff, not only did they not want to know when my wife couldn't cope with the pain she was in they didn't want to inform me what they intended to do about either. On the Sundays evening my wife was told by a nurse she would need a scan in the morning to determine what it was that causing her the pain. So why did I return to visit on 15.04.13 to be told by the nurses on duty they was sending my wife home when they got her temperature down, shortly after being told this my wife decided she needed to go to the toilet, only to let out an excruciating scream as she found it difficult to pass water by this time. The next thing I hear is them saying my wife is in the wrong place she as an "S.T.I", I was disgusted that they even suggested this to be the cause of my wife's pain just because of the difficulty in passing water. We have been married for 20 years. Well, it's now Monday evening and still no scan and still can't get my wife's temperature down, so clearly to me somethings still not right. Go to visit my wife on 16.04.13 she tells me they took her for a scan last night around 22.30 and found some bubbling around her appendix, she then tells me around 3.30 am a surgeon comes to visit her to explain surgery will need to be done and it would be advised to have it done 1st thing in the morning rather than straight away. So again I'm asking " why", as they take her to theatre at 17.30 on 16.04.13, nearly 3 days after being admitted. We eventually see my wife on 17.04.13 as she never returned from surgery before visiting time had ended to find she had endured a major operation. It was only a week into her stay she finally found out the true extent of her operation apparently her appendix were badly infected causing peritonitus and perforating her bowel, to which she endured a 10 day stay in qmc and is now still not on the road to recovery as such. I feel had she been sent for this scan upon arrival this may not of turned out as nasty as it did I feel everyone let my wife down, and there was nothing I could to help her, I'm just thankful she's still here today because this could of turned out too be fatal.
