"A waste of space"

About: Lynfield Mount Hospital

I have visited similar facilities in a 'third world country' and this is far worse than anything I saw there. The facilities for patient recreation are non existant; the conservatory area was closed to patients except at meal times. Staff were intrusive and overbearing and showed no concern for patient's well being and seem to spend most of their time watching TV. Despite written comments regarding cleanliness, nothing was done to rectify the problems.

I am sorry to hear of this experience whilst staying in our hospital. Our recreation and visitor facilities are under review and we aim to improve these in the near future. Our concern for patient well-being is a priority and these comments will be shared with ward staff so they can understand how their approaches make people feel. Also worth mentioning that we have daily meetings on our wards to provide an opportunity for concerns such as cleanliness to be raised. We will raise this concern with our housekeeping and Ward Managers so they know about the issues you have raised. If you are interested in supporting us with our Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE), then you will be very welcome as I am sure you will make a valuable contribution. Please contact our Involvement Team members on 01274 228193 or 228157 if you wish to take part.
