"My recent stay for day surgery"

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

I was recently in hospital for an operation to remove a tumour from my face. Despite being in my 40s I had never been into hospital for an operation before. I attended the pre op check a few weeks before admission and the staff where very friendly, however they did do all the checks without really saying what was happening and why.....I assume that a lot of it becomes automatic for them but it left me a little bewildered. On the day of the op I arrived with my overnight bag, they done all the check and the anaesthetist, was obviously not happy that I had eaten breakfast at 7, despite my letter saying I cold eat up to 7.30, this made me feel a little uncomfortable and although he didn't saying anything directly to me, I knew this was the case. I was already nervous and this just made me more jittery. I came round from the anaesthetic and was eventually moved to a ward. Again the staff where friendly enough, but as previous went about their check with little explanation, No-one even told me where I would find the toilets! The food was passable, and everyone was friendly and pleasant, Everything ran smoothly and I was discharged the following day. My only criticism would be to make sure people know what you are doing and why.....for example:- You all may know what a cannula is and its purpose......all us customers don't ......
