"I attended the Day Surgery Unit ..."

About: The Whittington Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I attended the Day Surgery Unit on 19th August and was extremely impressed with the service I received. At my prior assessment visits (for blood tests etc. and a separate visit for an ECG) I was seen within 5 minutes of my appointment time.

On the day of my operation I I found all the staff pleasant and helpful. I was seen by the anaesthetist who was very reassuring and someone from the surgical team both before and after the operation. Staff took time to ensure that patients understood everything which was happening. The unit was very clean and, I would say, "state of the art".

What could be improved

There was a problem obtaining the necessary medication to take home. Apparently the surgeon had not signed the prescription form (or not signed it properly) so it was rejected by the pharmacy, the surgeon had to be bleeped and then the prescription sent down again. This led to approximately a two hour wait which was unfortunate since every other aspect of the treatment was so good.

We are delighted that your experience in the day treatment centre was so good.

However we are sorry about the problem you had getting your medication. We have

taken this up with the pharmacy department and so it does not happen again.

Thank you so much for bringing this issue to our attention.
