"Thank you to all at Royal Bolton Hospital, especially E4"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I started with severe abdominal pain one weekend and after initially being diagnosed with a water infection by the GP was admitted into hospital on the Sunday and had my appendix removed on the Monday. The appendix turned out to be gangrenous and apparently difficult to remove. I was consequently a patient on E4 for 16 days as I also developed an extremely high temperature after my operation and although I had many tests to establish what was causing the high temperature we were never able to identify the cause, although I was constantly informed and updated. I cannot thank all of the staff enough for their superb care and committment to their very difficult jobs.As I got better I was able to observe what was going on around me as well as how I was cared for. The ward was spotless with spot checks taking place, the bedding was changed daily and sometimes more when necessary. All the patients on the ward were treated with respect and dignity regardless of age, and nothing was too much trouble for this wonderful team of people from the support staff, the nurses, and finally Dr Winstanley and his team. It is the little things that you appreciate, e.g. on my first opportunity to have a shower and wash my hair after the operation we only had shampoo, and I commented that my hair also needed conditioner, so the next day the nurse (Tery) had brought conditioner without being asked, little things like that are obviously above and beyond the call of duty but very appreciated by a woman who has had an operation and wants to start feeling better. This wasn't an isolated incidence of kindness there were many others during my stay. I also stayed in hospital for a month many years ago when I had a problematic pregnancy which resulted in the birth of a very premature baby who had to stay in the special care baby unit for 6 weeks. I will be eternally grateful to the staff at Royal Bolton Hospital you do a fantastic and difficult job and I just wanted to express my appreciation through this web site. Thank you.
