"Lack of trolley phone"

About: Castle Hill Hospital / Clinical oncology

(as a relative),

My sister's care has been good, but I find it disappointing that a patient with terminal mesothelioma, who is very weak and breathless, has to walk down a corridor to make or receive phone calls.

Surely a trolley phone could be provided?

Response from Castle Hill Hospital

Thank you for adding you comment to the NHS Choices website. It is always a pleasure to receive such positive feedback and we will ensure that the staff concerned are made aware of these. The majority of beds at Castle Hill Hospital and Hull Royal Infirmary have telephones at the bedside connected to the TV for patients to use. There are some areas where it has not yet been possible to provide this service and I presume this was a ward that did not have this facility available. Patients do bring mobile phones into hospital but are asked to use them off the main ward area to protect the privacy and dignity of other patients. Your comments regarding this will be forwarded to the Facilities Team for their consideration.
