My stay at B.R.I. lasted from Boxing Day lunchtime to around 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve. I was admitted to A and E after suffering a fall in icy conditions. I dislocated and fractured my left elbow joint.. They were quite busy in A. and E. so it was sometime before I could be attended to. In the meantime I was given a gas mask to ease the pain. After sorting the dislocation and putting on the bandage I was transferred up to Ward 27. I stayed there for 2 nights and then was transferred to Ward 28 for the remainder of my 5 night stay. I had an operation to repair the fracture after the 4th night, which went successfully. The care and dedication of the nursing staff was in nearly all cases exceptional. I have a few dietary issues and these were eventually sorted out for me. I only have one gripe about my treatment and that is that on returning to the ward (28)after the operation, I was in some discomfort and no staff were visible but I could hear voices behind the curtain. Though I called out several times, nobody came to reassure me. My daughter came back to B.R.I. on New Year's Day to collect some medication for me, but the Pharmacy was closed and she had to return the next day. All in all, I would have no hesitation in recommending B.R.I. for treatment. I would also mention the very calm and well-spoken anaesthetist who talked to me before the operation, the physio who explained things well and of course the skill of the consultant who carried out the operation successfully. I did detect that there were just one or two unhappy souls amongst the staff but in general it was a hard-working and efficient nursing team who put the care of the patient at the top of the list.
