The care I received from the orthopaedic department was poor to say the least. I first went to K&C hospital with an anterior SC joint dislocation and after they were unsuccessful with reducing it, sent me to the William Harvey orthopaedic department with the advisement that if it couldn't be reduced there, it would need surgical intervention. When I got to William Harvey I was told I had to go through A&E. The receptionist we spoke to couldn't seem to care less. The triage nurse was lovely, as were the nurses who came to see me three hours later with some pain relief. However, I was left waiting in A&E for close to four hours in pretty agonizing pain (as the painkillers did nothing to help). When I was finally seen by someone from orthopaedics, he seemed like he had a million better things to be doing. He looked at me for all of a minute and pressed down on the dislocated joint, with little regard for the pain it caused. He then told me that there was nothing they could do and it wouldn't do me any harm to just leave it out. The pain I'm still in says otherwise. He gave me a tramadol (that also did nothing for the pain) and told me to just try putting it back in myself. I'll be seeing my GP as they actually care about my well being.
