"Continuation of prev review concerning my mothers..."

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Anything else?

After I posted my review on this web site concerning my mothers stay at DRI I had a flurry of phone calls from the staff on ward 25. All of a sudden they became very informative and very helpful. I just think it is a shame that I had to find this web site in order to prompt some action. However she was discharged on Friday December 20th after being admitted with a urine infection. As soon as she arrived home she was complaining that she didn't feel well and had to keep using the toilet. The next day I had to ring the out of hours GP and she was readmitted to DRI with a urine infection. So why was she discharged the day before? She was then sent home in a taxi in the evening of Monday December 23rd, an 82 year old confused woman who's legs were heavily bandaged and had to walk with a frame. The staff in the discharge lounge were very aloof and seemed very disinterested each time I rang to enquire about her well being. At one point they even left me an answer phone message to say I could collect her. The fact that I had no use of a car that day was of no interest to them. Also how did they know I would get the answer phone message as I was obviously not at home when they left it! So once again I am not impressed with DRI and feel very fortunate that I live in Sheffield where the service is so much better.

We are sorry to hear this. As soon as we become aware of an issue, we will seek to resolve it to the person's satisfaction, whether they raise it in person, in writing or on a website like this. Our preference is to resolve any issues at the time, so they can be corrected before the patient is discharged, so we would encourage patients and relatives to speak to ward staff if they have any queries or concerns. We acknowledge the concerns you have raised and will conduct a thorough investigation into the issues. We are unable to publicly comment on details relating to your mother's care, but would like to express that all actions were conducted with the best of intentions.
