"Faultless nursing staff made Christmas op run..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

Anything else?

I have just spent my Christmas in the gynae day patients unit (A6) following a hysterectomy on Christmas eve and the care I received was simply outstanding. Nursing staff were faultless, each introducing themselves to me before commencing care, prepared to help in any way they could and responded quickly to any buzzer press. I've been cared for privately in the past and this experience was definitely on a par, if not better than that. The ward was spotless and all staff (from tea ladies to ward nurses) friendly and willing to chat, while being super efficient at what they do - making me feel like a respected patient throughout. I have to say that my anaesthetist could learn a lot from the nursing staff on this ward in terms of bedside manner, respecting a patient's dignity and handling with care. Mine was sadly lacking in these areas - maybe he just didn't want to be working on Christmas eve. His treatment of me was the only negative within an otherwise positive & relaxed experience. Thank you A6 staff - you rock!
