I had to take my grandaughter to A&E to have her ankle examined after a nasty fall. The sign informed me that the wait time was 2 hours, yet we were seen in under 50 minutes. The Nurse practitioner was caring and thorough in her examination, and explained carefully to my grandaughter why she wasn't rushing into sending her for an Xray (due to being a vulnerable age!). She gave her some pain relief and told us to wait for 20 minutes then she would reassess the situation, and offered us both a hot drink while we waited. After just 22 minutes she called us through again and as there was still a lot of pain and tenderness she sent us off to Xray. Again we expected a long wait, but we were seen within 5 minutes, then returned to the original nurse for the results. Thankfully there was no chip or fracture, but I am grateful that the nurse made sure of this. She treated my grandaughter and myself with total respect and explained everything clearly, and we were out in about 90 minutes. I found the whole experience positive and not at all unpleasant, even though I would have preferred to be somewhere else on a Saturday morning just before Christmas!
