"Smoking Cessation at Fountain Street"

About: Leeds PCT

(as the patient),

I visited my GP in mid July in order as I wanted support and treatment to stop smoking. I was informed I had to see a nurse in order to start the treatment. When I went to make the appointment with the nurse, I was told there was not an appointment until September. So much for the NHS's push to help people stop smoking. I am therefore doing it on my own.

Thank you for drawing to our attention the problem you have encountered in obtaining an appointment for smoking cessation at your GP Practice. We are keen to ensure that all smokers are given the best possible chance of stopping smoking and the NHS provides a range of services where you can make a direct appointment. If you phone the Leeds NHS Stop Smoking Service on: 0800 169 4219 you will normally be offered an appointment with a specialist smoking adviser within 1-2 weeks. The service provides a range of clinics and arranges your treatment and ongoing support.
