"Attended the hospital for day surgery."

About: Goring Hall Hospital

Anything else?

Taken to my room which was newly refurbished and lovely. I met with the consultant and he was very professional and the procuderes were explained very well to me. I also met with the anaesthetist. I think I was more or less last on the list but this wasn't a problem. On my pre op a MRSA Swab was taken but the results had gone missing apparently the third set that day, so I had to shower in special gel which was quite inconvenient. After a change of staff nurse, the current nurse explained to me that she would tell me when the patient went down to theatre before me, so I could prepare myself, this didn't happen and the next thing I knew the hospital porter was knocking the door. I saw the consultant after the operation and everything had gone to plan. After the operation I had a problem with my oxygen levels and was discharged at 10.30 PM I found this appalling as my Husband had to wake up my two sons from their beds to drive over and collect me. As my Husbands insurance company were paying for my operation you would think I would have been given the option to stay for the night as it was so late. I would expect this maybe from an NHS Hospital needing the beds but not from Goring Hall. The nurse who discharged me and another nurse had no bedside manner whatsoever and I felt that I was an inconvenience to them. Even my Husband mentioned this to me today about the first nurse! All in all the ward orderlys were much nicer. Would I go back to Goring Hall yes to see that particular consultant but not for the nursing care.

We are very concerned to learn of your experience. This is contrary to the feedback that we are used to. Ensuring our patients feel well looked after is very important to us and we will do whatever we can to deliver this. As you have posted anonymously, we’d like to ask you to contact me at the Hospital so we can investigate further. Kind regards Una Palmer Executive Director Goring Hall Hospital
