I had a procedure done first week of December. The operation went well and I was very satisfied with the professional way I was treated in the lead up to this. I remember briefly waking up after the operation and having the morphine controler to help the pain and I slept through to the next morning without problems. A nurse came and took the catheter out and remove the morphine. Later, I was expecting to go home but couldn't pass enough urine to do so and the decision was taken by the staff nurse to keep me in for another night. The afternoon came and I started to feel teary and very unwell. I was told I couldn't have any pain relief for another few hours. The pain was unbearable and at the time there appeared to be a lot of fuss coming from the nurses. At this point I did not feel I was being taken seriously albeit in complete agony. Eventually, the pain subside but the experience has left me with concerns about patient aftercare. The nurses on the night shift were brilliant though, as I woke up several times through the night in pain they were able to stabilise this and I woke up in the morning feeling much better and ready to go home. They showed respect and compassion, which is how you expect to be treated when being looked after in hospital. A ward doctor came along on both days to check the other ladies but walked past and dismissed me as another doctors patient. I thought this was extremely rude. This doctor could have just asked how I was feeling. At no point did a doctor checked on me in my recovery over the two days I was in your hospital. Fortunately, I'm making a good recovery at home but I worry for anyone else that goes through a similar situation who might not be as strong. On cleanliness, the toilets had urine samples left in them waiting for nurses to pick them up. Quite disgusting.
