About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

Anything else?

Re post on 26 November 2013 (stroke unit). My late mother suffered a similar fate at DGH. I was told that lessons would be learned. It appears that diabetes management is still as poor almost 1 year on. I made a formal complaint but only learned truth of poor treatment when I read medical records - 2 strokes on 2 separate days ignored by staff in hospital - aspirin prescribed after staff acted but only given on first day - nurses and doctors failed to act on numerous occasions in respect of hypos and hypers - error in weight (by almost 5 stones) when calculating PEG feed nutrition - staff consistently failed to monitor blood sugar levels or carry out blood tests when requested - catheter removed (despite my repeatedly telling staff about incontinence issues) and 1400mls of urine drained when catheter reinserted days later. If you, a family member or friend is admitted with complex clinical needs be very vigilant. This hospital was graded Level 2 by CQC - Level 6 is the best!

We are saddened to hear about your late mothers poor experience and are deeply concerned to hear your views. We have made a number of improvements in relation to diabetes management and receive much positive feedback from patients about the care they receive at Eastbourne DGH. We would be happy to discuss your views further should you wish to contact The Patient Advice & Liaison Service on 01323 435886 or by email at: PALSE@esht.nhs.uk. We apologise for our delay in posting a response.
