On the first day of our visit to friends in Woodley, I was taken ill with chest pains and nausea. Paramedics attended in response to an emergency call (within 5 mins) and following a fast professional assessment and first response care, took me to the Royal Berks. On arrival I was taken straight into the lab and underwent a scan, artery clearout and had a stent fitted. I was then transferred to the admissions ward for one night before being moved to the male recovery ward. The treatment that I received was truly amazing and all the staff (from the paramedics, the operational team and the aftercare staff) were dedicated hard working people who really cared what was happening to their patients. I was not the only patient to feel this way as all others who I spoke to on the wards told me that they felt the same. The only part of this experience that let the hospital down was the discharge process and the supplying of drugs to patients in the discharge lounge. This whole process appeared to be completely disorganised. Having been told at 0930hrs that I was being discharged I eventually received my drugs and was able to leave at 1440hrs. My heartfelt thanks go to all the staff who helped me and enabled me to walk out of the hospital and continue my life.
