I visited the breastfeeding clinic yesterday as I have been having problems with latch and weightgain in my 4 week old baby. I have been receiving support from my midwife and maternity support worker, as well as my local breastfeeding group but unfortunately, nothing suggested seemed to increase his weight enough so I have had to supplement his feeds with formula. I decided to take the 100 mile round trip as a last resort before accepting that I would have to formula feed, if I couldn't get help here then there was no hope for me. I am so glad I came. The midwife/ lactation consultant I saw was very well-informed and knowledgable and listened to my problems very sympathetically before offering me advice and options about my next steps. She noticed that my son had a tongue-tie and thrush which is something that hadn't been picked up by anyone else, and these things are fairly likely to have caused my problems. The tongue-tie has now been corrected by the midwife and I have a plan in place that hopefully will ensure that I can get back on track and successfully exclusively breastfeed like I originally intended.
