"Respectful and reassuring"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

I had a Tonsillectomy at beginning of week and was very apprehensive and upset about the procedure, but from the initial examination by the doctor to being discharged I was impressed by the efficiency and co-operation of the staff, and the way they respected my feelings throughout. I had my initial consultation on 2 Nov and was offered a surgery date the following Monday as it was deemed an urgent procedure. At the pre-op examination I voiced my fears about treatment and the nurse made an appointment for me to see a consultant anaesthetist to answer any questions I had. I had the original operation rearranged as I had a cough, and after seeing a very helpful anaesthetist who listened patiently to all my worries and was clear and calm explaining everything I was given an appointment for the 2nd Dec. The staff of Day Surgery were friendly and efficient - although the waiting area could be a little more calming and welcoming. I met with a doctor who went over the procedure again and then saw a brilliant anaesthetist who was amazing - the most calm and reassuring person I have met in the medical world - very very impressed by his honesty and dignified way of treating nervous and upset patients. I was bumped up the operation schedule - and was discharged several hours later after being visited by both surgeons and the anaesthetist. Although the recovery is painful the whole thing has been made more manageable because the care I received was so professional and genuinely caring - thanks !
