My husband was admitted to RSCH on Tues 26th Nov 2013. We live near PRH and I could not get an explanation of why he was at RSCH. I understand the two hospitals are in the same Trust but cannot understand why he had to spend four days in the RSCH when he was not unwell, waiting for two days without treatment as this was not necessary, for another operation. Finding my way to his ward was a challenge. Poor signposting and lack of any one to ask made it a stressful experience. I wonder what it would be like for an elderly relative who has to travel a distance and is worried about a loved one. I was distressed by the time I arrived on the ward. My husbands medical treatment was extremely good but I do wonder why he took up a precious bed for two days awaiting an operation., The Dr who saw him in a ward round on Saturday(30th Nov) did not introduce himself and was rude when my husband asked if he would be discharged the following day. The Drs response said it depended on whether 'your 'colleauges in Brighton do not smash themselves up over night;' Not only is this disrespectful to patients,an assumption was made about my husband which was offensive and disrespectful. I work for the NHS in a community setting. Not one of my colleagues would make such a comment to our patients. I appreciate from first hand experience the stresses of working in the NHS but see no reason for rudeness. I would reiterate that the nursing care and medical treatment was exemplary and we are very grateful for that. It was a pity the lack of clarity about why he had to be there, terrible directions and lack of staff to ask for help (in the evening) plus the rudeness of the Dr made the experience stressful and dissapointing. I would value a response to my concerns. I work in a hospital, am aware of the challenges and have to say my recent personal experience of dealing with both PRH and Pembury Hospital far outreach my experience at RSCH. Thankyou
