"Hospital Review"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

Despite clearly informing staff about my personal decision/requirement as to not having any Internal Examination, early the next morning accompanied by another 4 doctors the consultant urologist came to my bedside. He suggested a Vaginal exam which I immediately refused. He became very irritated on my refusal to allow this and slightly raised his voice saying he would be writing down on my notes that I refused him poking his finger up my vagina . He went on to rudely say that I would never find a female urologist at this hospital and that they were all men. I calmly explained to him that it was not an issue of gender as I didn't really care who dealt with me, the reason behind my declining that intimate examination is that I have never engaged in sexual activity and have certain expectations on marriage. He then retorted that I should hope my CT scan showed a kidney stone or he would be performing a cytoscopy on me and in his words "First Cleaning inside your vaginal lips ". I have since changed urologists and hospitals where I am treated with respect. I have a kidney problem I need a urologist not a gynecologist!!
