My neighbour who is 83 came in via ambulance with a chest infection and was very poorly. She was left in majors for an hour covered in her own excrement. She was assessed as being dehydrated and in need of iv fluids- this was done after 2 hours. She needed an ECG the nurse doing this did it and then did not cover her back up so left her exposed so we had to cover her dignity! When she was moved on to 16 they put her in a side room near where the nurses station is. We had to ask three times over the hour of visiting what her care plan was. She was given a roast dinner which was lovely if she had a knife and fork to be able to eat it!! Then was asked why she didn't eat her food...... The following day she was given a jacket potato to eat which was as cold as if it had come out the fridge. She then has moved to 23 and the nursing staff when given an idea of why she won't take her tablets were rude and defensive. If the staff had the time and people skills to sit for a minute to ask her why she won't take her tablets she would be able to say as just because she's 83 doesn't mean to say she should be ignored! Where has basic care gone....... Sort it out
