"Forgot to give morphine, post op!"

About: King George Hospital

Anything else?

My wife came in for what should have been a routine op. The first op was a shambles, so much so they forgot to dose her with morphine so she was in excruciating pain until they finally did something about it (which took a lot of effort since the staff nurses considered pressing a call button once sufficient even though my wife was crawling up the walls). An anaesthetist from another theatre realised the problem and administered the required morphine. It turned out that the ‘box had been ticked, but the drug was not administered, they’d forgotten’! We are in the 21st Century, right? You 'forget' to buy milk from the shops - you don’t ‘forget’ to administer post op drugs! The second op rectified the problem, but left my wife traumatised by the situation. We have very little confidence in the skills and competency of the medical staff at Kind George’s. Another (unrelated) visit to out-of-hours emergency left my wife mis-diagnosed, our GP was as displeased as we were. Shocking! What a very sad and embarrassing situation for this hospital.
