"I attended accident @ emergency ..."

About: The Great Western Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I attended accident @ emergency on Sunday afternoon and was given treatment and advise to visit my GP for a referral if things didn't improve in a couple of days. They didn't so I saw my Gp and was admiitted onto Beech ward on Tuesday afternoon, operated on on Wednesday morning and am home on Thursday morning. Everyone I spoke to was kind, proffessional and good humoured. I cannot fault the service I received. I send my thanks to all involved.

What could be improved

My only greivance is the complicated set up of the tv, phone, radio service. I am fairly technically minded but found this system confusing and difficult to access.

The instructions are baffling ..... I had problems setting up an account as the previous occupant of my bed had not signed out.

When I came to do this myself I understood how easy it is for this to happen as there is no obvious way of doing this.

Most of the people on my ward were elderly ladies who were scared to even touch the machine. Some of them were in there for weeks at a time and would have loved to have had access to a tv and phone that they felt confident to use.

It seems like a great concept but it fails to meet the needs of patients. as for the e-mail facility......I just gave up after trying to access it for about 20 minutes!
