My Mum was admitted to the above ward with heart failure on 30th September 2013. She was dying. My brother and I were treated very sympathetically but also told the situation gently and compassionately by the doctor. They allowed my brother to visit late at night ,they supplied us with refreshments and nothing was too much trouble. Mum was made very comfortable and I felt she was at peace. I was with her when she died and although I have never seen anyone die before ,I was not afraid, thanks to the attentive care of the wonderful nurses. Afterwards a nurse accompanied me to the Main Entrance and checked I was OK. I would like to express my thanks to the staff on the High Dependency Unit on Aspen Ward. for their End of Life Care for my Mum. The last year has been extremely stressful for the family but we now have good memories of her final time in hospital. The unit was well staffed with excellent nurses and doctors who were always there for us.
