My family is very grateful for the treatment my mother has received at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital. The staff have been wonderful.
Mum has spent time in hospital over the last year, both at HRI and Calderdale, and the Maple ward is a shining example of care for the elderly.
I have kept a log of her experience, as I was quite disturbed over her treatment at times in hospital - lack of personal care and attitudes of some staff. Whilst we appreciate the NHS is under great strain, it is uplifting to find a unit where the staff understand the issues which the elderly are facing, and are committed to their rehabilitation, despite the present cutbacks and re-grading issues.
The physios and the occupational health teams have been amazing. This unit is a 'sanctuary in the desert' and it provides the help and support to families who find themselves being tossed about in the system.
