From the moment we walked round Penrice, my husband and I knew we'd love to be able to have our first child delivered there. It had a special feeling and you just knew the staff and facilities could offer you very personalised care and attention. This turned out to be exactly the case. My labour was very quick and after an hour of contractions at home I was scared about the amount of pain I was in for "early labour". The midwife on duty, rather than encourage me to stay at home longer said it was fine for me to come in because they had side rooms for me to stay in to wait for established labour. I'm so grateful to her for reading the signs in my voice in that phonecall. We left straight away and by the time I arrive I was 7cm dilated. The rest is a bit of a blur but all I know is I felt safe, secure and all my wishes (hastily translated from grunts into words by my husband) were all respected. Our son was born less than 3 hours after we arrived in the birthing pool. It was magical and even hours later I was reminiscing about how magical my labour was. They delivered our son with lots of support from the midwives, they were fantastic and we couldnt have asked for anything more from them. Post delivery, Penrice is just as special; the ward is homely, clean, and all the staff so pleasant. A truly wonderful place for our family to meet their first Grandson, Nephew etc. The staff helped me through a tricky first night of breast feeding; nothing was too much trouble or any question to silly; they are all very caring.
