"Fantastic Maternity Department-Cannot recommend..."

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

Anything else?

I gave birth to my first baby at the end of October and cannot recommend and thank the staff enough. After a fairly uneventful pregnancy,I was soon admitted to the ward during the last week of my pregnancy with high blood pressure, with a view to being induced. To cut a long story short,I was induced, and after 10 hours of hard labor, had to be rushed for in for an emergency c section.I cannot thank the midwives and emergency team enough for all they did for myself,my husband and most importantly,my newborn daughter. From the moment they knew there was a problem,we were kept informed of everything that was happening,as well as the team making sure my husband was physically and emotionally ok. Once my daughter was delivered, they quickly sorted me out and had me on the ward with my newborn within an hour or so,and this is where they really,in my mind, showed how good they are.Not only did the midwives constantly check on myself and my progress after the c section, they helped my husband with my newborn, whether it be changing nappies, dressing her, helping me feed her,as well as making sure he was looking after himself and able to get a meal etc.Any initial problems we had were quickly and effectively dealt with, and I was made to feel that they were always there,no matter how big or small the problem.Even during the first few difficult nights, the staff would pop in to check on me and my daughter, making sure I wasn't in pain,as well as making sure my daughter was fed, changed and settled. Also, the surgeon, midwives and even the anesthetist that administered my epidural during my c section popped in to check on my progress more than once, with the surgeon even staying and going through my notes with me,to fill in any gaps I had about exactly what happened during my labor and eventual c section, which I felt was above and beyond. I ended up being in the hospital for 6 days, and can honestly say that the staff made it as pleasant an experience as it could be considering the circumstances, and I cannot thank them enough for all the care my family received. They truly were amazing, even during very busy times, and I hope they receive the praise and thanks they truly deserve.
