"Eastwood Ward"

About: Southend Hospital

Anything else?

The staff on the ward are very friendly, however as I was only a day patient I did feel as if I was an interloper. No named nurse, no name above bed, no real information as to ward procedure etc., a handbook for the ward on each bedside cabinet would be really helpful. The ward itself, in physical terms was depressing. One of the lights was not working causing a gloomy atmosphere, air flow was no existent meaning windows had to be opened above patients some of whom then found it cold, the lounge area was being used to store a cage with boxes on and the toilets: they need to be upgraded and there needs to be more, when someone is using the shower everyone else has to cross their legs. All that said the staff were very professional and friendly, there definitely needs to be more of them to really provide the excellent service they would want to.

Many thanks for your comments. I am pleased that the staff were caring and fully appreciate your comments about the ward. These will be passed on for the ward manager to consider. I hope you have made a good recovery from your stay. Steve McEwen Patient Experience Lead
