I initially attended my own practice (Cedar Medical Practice Scunthorpe)
and after an examination I was referred for secondary care and was provided with the "Choose and Book" option. I made my appointment through the Choose and Book with the Colorectal Surgery - Scunthorpe General Hospital.
I was only told I was being referred by the practice and given no other details.
The Choose and Book does not state that this is an Outpatient appointment, the department is Colorectal surgery!
I have had no information from the above department as to what is expected prior to this appointment. Do I eat and drink as normal. Will I be allowed to drive. Is this surgery, (there has been previous problems and a previous Colonoscopy) or is it an examination?
I have found a PDF online for Scunthorpe Hospital dated 2009, which states,
Welcome to the Colorectal Clinic Outpatients Department.
This leaflet has been designed to inform you of the procedures we have for attending the Colorectal Clinic and answer some common questions and queries.
But not knowing if this information is current I had to phone the Colorectal Clinic appointments department 3 days prior to my appointment to establish what the procedures are.
I was told this was a 10 minute appointment for an examination and that this information should have been provided at the surgery which it wasn't.
Why did the Choose and Book not say it was Outpatients rather than surgerY?
Why was there a PDF from 2009 explaining procedures, yet no information is passed to the patient in 2013? Where is the Colorectal Surgery located at Scunthorpe General Hospital. Which side of the hospital do I need to attend, what if I am disabled? Choose and Book does not provide this information, who is supposed to provide this information, the surgery or the hospital?
If the Choose and Book had an option to leave your email address, which ever Hospital you selected, they could then pass the above information or PDF file to the patient. It is not rocket science?
