"25th September 2012 Ward 6"

About: Wrightington Hospital

Anything else?

25th September 2012 Ward 6 I had a total hip replacement at Wrightington Hospital way back in May 1984 28 years ago and it has lasted till September 2013 when I had a total hip revision surgery with bone graphing performed by the doctor and his team at Wrightington Hospital. I was under one doctor but at the time of my hip giving way his waiting list was too long and I choose another doctor whom I visited early June agreed on the revision surgery being needed to be done. Had pre-op assessment middle of July, had my revision operation on the 25th September 2013 after our holiday. I was booked in 7:00am on Ward D welcomed by a nurse and taken to my bed. It wasn't too long before all my pre tests were completed and I was ready for my operation. My belonging were locked up in a cage to be taken to the ward for safe keeping. The doctor visited me and again explained in great detail what he was going to do and if I had any questions. He was followed by his secretary with forms to be signed who also made me feel at ease. I was well looked after in the recovery suite during the night and was checked every hour on the hour to make sure I was comfortable. I was taken to Ward Six the following morning where I was looked after by the ward staff. On ward Six all the staff were caring and very helpful specially when I felt unwell and needed some extra caring. The ward was spotlessly clean and the cleaners were friendly and chatty, the beds cleaned down in an order every day. The food was brilliant, given a choice every meal time and being an ex chef I can be fussy. Overall I was very pleased with the outcome of my surgery, I've been in no pain from the operation the scar was very neat and my G P's nurse was amazed how easy the stitches came out. What I liked The cleanliness of the ward instilled confidence in the staff's attitude to hygiene generally. Constant hand washing and bed changing made me feel safe and comfortable. The staff went about their hard work with humour when appropriate. The food was much better than I expected. I was happy to be in an open ward where I met interesting people and had some great conversations. The Physio team were excellent. Their approach was caring though professional and not without some humour. I was treated with dignity throughout my stay and I never felt embarrassed. I know I will need an operation on my knee very soon because of the wear & tare it has had supporting my hip. But I know for the obvious reasons I will choose to go to Wrightington Hospital because it's the best in the country for this type of surgery and it's better than my local hospitals in Warwickshire.
