Anything else?
I dislocated my shoulder several weeks ago and felt I should visit the hospital. I checked your handy online waiting time checker and opted to go to Tewkesbury as there was no wait. They concluded it was indeed dislocated, and handed me a chit for an x-ray at Cheltenham. The staff at Cheltenham were polite, one porter in particular had an excellent attitude to the patients he was dealing with while I waited in x-ray. After having my x-ray I waited to see a triage nurse who was also very friendly and polite. Checking my medical history of shoulder issues, she offered me a sling and booked me in to fracture clinic. Up to this point, I would happily have awarded you 5 stars all around. My visit to the fracture clinic couldn't have been more different. My consultant, who I had seen before, appeared disinterested and in a rush. He asked if I had had shoulder issues before and seemed taken aback when I informed his that he had operated on me six year ago, clearly he hadn't even bothered to look at my notes. After that he had me stand against a wall with my arm out, concluded it was dislocated and offered me an open appointment for the next six months. Very useful, I now have an incredibly weak shoulder, on and off pain, discomfort when I sleep and absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to do. In contrast, when it last dislocated in 2011 (4 years after my evidently poor surgery) I visited Beverley hospital and saw an incredible consultant and physio simultaneously. They spent almost an hour with me, recommended exercises, referred me to a regular physio and in that hour, identified an issue with my shoulder blades that my Cheltenham consultant had missed despite having seen me on numerous occasions. I couldn't be more dissatisfied with the consultant I saw, and were it not for the fact that there appears to be no other option but to see him in the county, I would avoid him at all costs.
"Excellent general staff, disinterested consultant."
