"Mammogram appointment"

About: Crosshouse Hospital

(as the patient),

After waiting months for mammogram appointment, eventually got one with less than a weeks notice. Managed to change shifts etc to allow me to go. Checked in at desk and was taken to a changing/waiting area. Sat for 30mins with a thin theatre gown on covering my top half, when a radiographer came to speak to me. The radiologist had decided I didn't now need the examination and sent me home. What a waste of my time and appointment slot.

Dear Scunnered,

Was there any recognition of the inconvenience to you and a sincere apology offered? Were you provided with an explanation as to why the doctor did not believe that the mammogram was appropriate? It does not sound like there was from what you say. Can you get in touch with me at craig.white@aapct.scot.nhs.uk as I would like to ask the Clinical Director for Radiology to review the circumstances and ensure that any learning there might be to avoid this happening to others is identified.

I am very sorry that this happened. Please contact me at craig.white@aapct.scot.nhs.uk so that I can arrange for the Clinical Director to take this forward.

Best wishes and thanks for taking the time to let us know about this,

Professor Craig A White

Assistant Director
