"I wish to congratulate the staff ..."

About: Wansbeck Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I wish to congratulate the staff at Wansbeck Hospital for the excellent care my husband recieved while a patient on ward 5. The staff, from domestic, nursing and at every level to consultants and junior doctors were not only very professional in their work but caring in the extreme.

The ward was very well run, with a high standard of cleanliness that was a tribute to the domestic staff. The food was of a very high quality and always served at the appropriate temperature.

The nursing staff were excellent in their approach to my husband's care and towards me and my family, they always took time to explain anything we didnt understand. The SHO was very helpful and spent time explaining diagnosis and treatment. From the minute we reached A&E to the day my husband was discharged we felt the treatment was first class. We hear of so many complaints about our NHS that I would like once more to thank the staff for what was a very positive experience from beginning to end.

Please accept our apologies for the lateness of this reply, technical problems have removed any means of replying until now.

In response to your comments thanking all the staff for their kind treatment and attention given to your husband during his stay on Ward 5 and during his time in the Accident and Emergency Department at Wansbeck General Hospital. It is very reassuring to know that you had a very positive experience and that you were given support, made welcome from all levels of staff and also that they provided quality care to your husband.

The staff involved have been forwarded a copy as it is reassuring for them to know that patients are happy with the service and appreciative of the care provided.

As you mentioned, the media is often very critical of treatment patients receive in NHS hospitals so comments such as yours is very motivating for staff.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I hope your husband is continuing to make a good recovery and wish you both all the best for the future.

ANN WRIGHT

Executive Director
