I was recently referred by my GP for CBT at the same time as starting on antidepressants. I wasn't sure how therapy would help because I felt that my depression was due to a chemical imbalance, but I was willing to try anything.
I wish I'd gone years ago. Through CBT (and therapist Bev) I have learned why my thoughts have led me to behave in a certain way, and how to change these thoughts and the way I react to them.
Having a greater insight into my depression has allowed me to communicate better with my partner who previously had felt helpless in the face of my mood swings.
I would highly recommend CBT to anyone with depression.
