"I liked the surrounding and relaxing ..."

About: Hexham General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I liked the surrounding and relaxing atmosphere as i entered a hospital that was strange to me, i was welcomed at the door by a man who diricted me to reception, where they dealt with me efficiantly and quickly, my appointment was dead on time, the nurses and consultant welcomed me, the consultant sent me for a scan and the scanning operator administerd a local before draining a large abcess in my breast, it was the nicest experiance of hopitals i have ever had

What could be improved

i could improve nothing in the hospital itself.

the most difficult part of the day was actually finding the hospital there were no signposts in Hexham to follow, even when after stopping several times to ask directions and we were almost on it we found it difficult to find an entrance to car park or outpatients. this i feel should be passed on to the local council.

Dear Ms Wharton

Thank you for completing the NHS Choices Website – Patient Opinions following your recent appointment at Hexham General Hospital. Your very kind comments are much appreciated and will be passed on to the relevant staff.

I am sorry you found it difficult to actually find the hospital on this occasion. As you quite rightly thought the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is not responsible for road signing within and around Hexham town centre. Notwithstanding, we will pass your comments on to the relevant department within Northumberland County Council and hope they will give consideration to this request.

Thank you for taking the time to write. It is most important that we continuously monitor the services to our patients and feedback of concerns will continue to play an essential role in this.

Yours sincerely

JENNY PLEDGER

Operational Services Manager

UPDATE:

Dear Ms Wharton,

Further to my letter of 30th October 2007 I am pleased to let you know the outcome of my correspondence with Northumberland County Council regarding signage for Hexham General Hospital. Mr J Mather (Assistant Engineer – Design Services Traffic) has investigated the existing signing on the route from the A69 to the hospital, and acknowledges that although the hospital is signed on a ‘map-type’ mini-roundabout advance direction sign, the hospital is not actually signed at the location of the mini-roundabout itself. Mr Mather has advised that he will arrange for an additional sign to be provided at the mini-roundabout to confirm the direction to the Hospital. Thank you again for taking the time to write.

Yours sincerely

Jenny Pledger
