After waiting 2 years for a referral by the gp to the hospital for phoriasis (which is spreading by the week) on my partners arm I called them 1 week (after being referred) to be told that there would be an 8 week wait. I've called today to follow this up (7 weeks after referral) to now be told that it is a 13 week wait! Very annoying. It is getting worse by the week and the staff at the contact centre don't seem to care about the fact that they've given wrong information. Its not exactly life threatening but just feel that accurate timescales should be given and if wrong information has been given this should be taken into account when allocating an appointment. If staff of any other organisation give wrong information then the organisation honors this.

As you can appreciate, we are unable to comment on why your partner did not get a GP referral sooner. I understand your frustrations around waiting times, particularly as you have been given different timescales and I apologise for that. However, most patients are seen within 18 weeks, which means that from the date the hospital receives the GP referral, the hospital must give the patient their first treatment within 18 weeks. Within this target we currently aim for patients to have their first outpatient appointment no later than 13 weeks. At the moment dermatology patients are waiting between 10 and 11 weeks for their first appointment. Patients who are deemed urgent are seen within six weeks.
