"My treatment of ear problem at Blackburn ENT"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

I was initially diagnosed with Labarynthitus over 12 months ago---(informed i was unlucky and a virus had probably attacked and affected my inner ear) --- by a consultant who i saw 12 days after being referred to him from A & E which i was taken to in an ambulance after having my first episode of being unable to stand and sickness and extreme vertigo. I was given treatment and medication over a period of 2 months and then discharged from this consultants care with the question to me--did i smoke? i replied that i smoked approxiamately 5-10 cigerretes a day to which the consultant replied as he discharged me--in front of me and my wife---well there you have it---thats where things are! I have not smoked since. I continued over the next 12 months to have lots of problems and issues with this and it was having a big impact on my normal day to day living. I returned to my G.P,s for different medications on several occasions and also had to go to A and E on other occasions with dibilitating sickness and vertigo and unable to stand upright---when these freqeunt attacks happened i was bed ridden for days as this is the only way i could manage my symptoms, leading to many days absence at work. On my last visit to A & E approx 3 months ago i was seen by a female doctor who was very understanding and listened to my ongoing health issues and problems, how it was having an impact on my day to day living--she referred me back to the ENT dept and i asked to see another consultant to the first one i saw with the initial problem 12 months previously. I was given an appointment to see a doctor and i cannot priase him and his team highly enough for the expert and proffessionism way i was treated on this 1st appointment and all subsequent appointments. The doctor was very thorough and patient and gave me the time to explain how my problem was having such a big impact on my daily life and also work and home life and how i was becoming really down with not being able to cope with these symptoms not knowing when they could happen or how long they would last. The doctor went on to explain in detail what it was-(mennieres was diagnosed) and a step by step treatment plan which included being admitted the following morning to start this treatment and for me to start to get relief and manage this in my daily life. The treatment is still ongoing and i would like to thank the doctor and his team for their excellant care and treatment of me. I would also like to thank the doctor and his team In audiology for their excellant treatment and care throughout the last 12 months or so in provided an excellant service to me. It took approx12 months to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan and i am really grateful and my confidence has been restored in the Blackburn Hospital thanks to the doctors and their teams.
