"Admission to Yeovil hospital via A&E"

About: Yeovil District Hospital

Anything else?

I took a taxi to A&E one Saturday morning just a few weeks ago because I was in such awful abdominal pain. I had misgivings about going which included concerns about wasting NHS time but mostly anxieties about my age and the belief that I would not be considered for treatment as I am 89. I had read many reports in the media suggesting that the elderly were somewhat of a drain on resources and any care was grudgingly given and even sometimes refused. Having now experienced wonderful care I can refute such suggestions. I experienced nothing but professional care and consideration throughout, First and foremost I was admitted to a ward situation and was made comfortable, there followed numerous tests and I was quickly transferred to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. I underwent major surgery within days and am happy to say that I am now recovering well and am most grateful for all the wonderful care I received both in Yeovil Hospital and in Taunton.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your comments on NHS Choices. It is so sad that you came to hospital with such feelings of anticipation and I am glad we were able to reassure you that your health and welfare are our priority and age is immaterial. Helen Ryan, Director of Nursing
