I visited my close friend and found her in extreme pain. I made the mistake of phoning 111 and after a lot of questions I was told to take her to her Doctor, I had difficulty getting her into the car but the Doctor saw her straight away and asked his receptionist to dial 999 and request an Ambulance. When asked if it was really necessary, she replied the Doctor thought it was! Although the surgery is on a main road about 4 miles from A&E an ambulance never came. Two further 999 calls were made from the surgery, which by this time was closed, but still no Ambulance. Although the Doctor was hesitant to agree I put her into my car and drove her to A&E. After many hours there she was admitted to the City General Hospital. Clearly the mistake I made was to phone 111, I condemned my friens to hours of excruciating pain as the Doctor was unwilling to administer pain killing drugs, thinking paramedics were on the way. I should have taken her straight to A&E and saved her the pain, saved the NHS expense, and allowed the Doctor and his staff to get home on time for their evening meals. Whilst I have praise for the attention given by her Doctor, I will be making an official complaint on her behalf.

This is now run by Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group, while the ambulance service is primarily run by East Midlands Ambulance Service.
