"Staff go above and beyond!!"

About: Blyth Community Hospital

Anything else?

My grandfather was transferred to ward 3 from Wansbeck following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. The care he received was absolutely outstanding. All the staff are so friendly and not only put my grandad's but the entire families mind's at rest. The whole team is fantastic. The ward manager runs the ward extremely well, she is very approachable and showed empathy towards our family. The nurses were very thorough when attending to my grandad, they never seemed to rush a job, they made him feel very special. The healthcare assistant were all fantastic too. They always answered the call bell promptly and were extremely caring at all times. The domestic's were fantastic too! Unfortunately my grandad died on ward 3 this month and I can honestly say the care he received during his final weeks, days and even hours was of an outstanding level. These staff go above and beyond the call of duty. They assisted us in planning day leave for him as his final wish. My grandad got home one final time to see the cars he had even working on prior to admission (this was his hobby). A massive thank you to each and everyone of the staff on ward 3 and a special Thank you to the doctor, there really isn't enough words to express our thanks.

Firstly can I send my sincere condolences to you and your family at this very sad time – it is incredibly kind of you to get in touch. Your Grandfather deserved warm, compassionate and high quality care – I am so pleased that we were able to provide this in a very special way at the end of his life. I know that that the team on ward three would have found it a privilege to listen and respond to all of your Grandfather’s needs, and I’m delighted that this included finding time for a very precious final day with his cars. You very generously take the time to mention all on the team who contributed to providing such ‘outstanding care’ – thank-you. I will make sure they all have the opportunity to know what a difference they made. With every warm wish, Annie Laverty – Director of patient experience.
